What's the story with performance donations?

Many of the events at The FireHouse have free admission. At the request of these performers or organizers, we include a statement on their promotional ads, to the effect:

"This event is not ticketed. However, cash donations of appreciation are gladly accepted."

Perhaps you've wondered how that works. Audience donations collected at the door go directly to the performers or organizers. They receive no other compensation - other than your applause. The FireHouse covers all normal production and operational expenses, staff time and promotional materials. Occasionally, performers will contribute some or all of their donation proceeds back to The FireHouse, to help us cover these necessary expenses - and we are very grateful. 

Please, donate generously to the presenters when you can. You are contributing to the health and resiliency of our creative community.
