Kuntz & Company - Documenting Grace Film Series: Obsessed with Light
Obsessed with Light is a meditation on light and the enduring obsession to create. The film pulls back the curtain on Loïe Fuller, a wildly original performer who revolutionized the visual culture of the early 20th century.
Creating a dialogue between the past and the present, the documentary delves into the astonishing influence Fuller's work has on contemporary artists including artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Swift, Bill T. Kuntz & Company - Documenting Grace Film Series: Crutch
CRUTCH documents Bill's extraordinary journey: the history of his medical odyssey and his struggles with chronic pain, the evolution of his crutch dancing and skating, his rise to become a world-renowned performance artist, and his transformation from an angry skate punk to an international hero.
CRUTCH also dives into Bill's provocative street performances, in which he exposes the hidden world of assumptions disabled people encounter in public, on a daily basis. While the film questions his early exploitation of strangers' good Samaritan impulses, it also marvels at Bill's ability to create solutions and empower others to navigate similar challenges.

Bellingham TheatreWorks : Deep Blue Sound
On a picturesque island in Puget Sound, we find a town in a crisis: The whales have gone missing.
While (unofficial) Mayor Annie searches for a solution, Chris tries to get back together with Mary; John reaches out to help Homeless Gary; Leslie longs for a faraway pen pal; Ali has come home to care for her mother; and Ella has a secret she only wants to share with local journalist Joy Mead, who she barely knows.
But what about the whales? Is their absence just a seasonal glitch, or is it a sign of our collective failure to take care of the Earth?
DEEP BLUE SOUND is a funny and moving play about the connections we make—and the ones we long to make—to other people, and to the world around us.

Jazz Center of Bellingham - Beserat Tafesse Quartet
Born to Ethiopian immigrants in the Pacific Northwest, Beserat Tafesse grew up with a wide array of musical and cultural influences. Traditional Ethio Jazz, the great Stevie Wonder, and his parents favorites were all mixed up and strewn together; each uniquely informing and penetrating his mind with a diverse soundscape from an early age. As he grew older, Beserat went to Central Washington University to pursue a degree in Classical Euphonium Performance, unintentionally cementing his love for jazz trombone instead. From there he attended the Manhattan School of Music, studying Jazz Trombone with some of the greats, and shedding nightly with many of New York’s living legends.
You may have seen him playing with acts such as the Mambo Legends Jazz Orchestra, The Birdland Big Band, or blasting away with Slavic Soul Party. You may also have heard his work on the Grammy Nominated album Art of the Arrangement, by Doug Beavers, one of many projects he gladly lent his horn playing to. After playing for years around town with bands such as The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and traveling the globe with groups such as Kings Kaleidoscope, Beserat decided it was finally time to return home to Seattle, to spend time with his friends and family who helped raise him.
Although he currently spends most of his time in Seattle, he still very much is a part of the national scene, traveling to and from his home as he sees fit. While in Seattle, Beserat continues to collaborate with world class musicians and teach at Cornish College of the Arts as well as work on his own debut solo project.

Tickets for this performance is also a fun and lovely plan for early Christmas gifts if you like.

Kuntz & Company - Documenting Grace Film Series: Dancing in A-Yard
In prisons ruled by toxic masculinity, dancing is an absolute taboo. But at Lancaster’s A-Yard, near Los Angeles, a group of young men, willing to take a chance to be mocked in the yard, start a dance class led by French choreographer Dimitri Chamblas.
This class quickly becomes an intoxicating escape from their grim reality so they decide to create a dance show. In this exceptional context, the inmates engage with overwhelming sincerity, evoking their childhood, ganglife, the crimes, the prison, and their desire for transformation.
Beyond damaged lives and a prison system on the edge of the abyss, DANCING IN A-YARD explores redemption and the capacity of human beings to reinvent themselves, when given a chance. And more importantly, how art and introspection can help see the light.

A series of readings and music from “Big Jam Stories”, an original historical fiction by Mark Nichols, featuring guest readers and musicians, including singer Julie Lewis.
The story of a little boy living on big jam in the years before the ancient log jam/crossing was “cleared” (1877), and before the first steam-powered river ferries passed into what is now referred to as the nooksack river below ferndale.

Jazz Center of Bellingham - Naomi Moon Siegel Ensemble
"The impression given by Naomi Moon Siegel is that she is serenading the constellations. There’s an imagery inherent to her music that is greater than the calculus of the notes, much in the same way a certain collection of stars become meaningful in the context of their astronomical shape and name and story."
- Dave Sumner, Best of 2019 Jazz on Bandcamp
Trombonist, composer and educator Naomi Moon Siegel has "crafted a truly unique aesthetic, combining elements of straightahead, fusion and modern jazz with world-music flavors in a way that sounds entirely of the 21st century" (JAZZIZ). A recipient of the Montana Arts Council Artist Innovation Award, Chamber Music America Performance Plus Grant, and Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award, she has released two albums as a bandleader to critical acclaim.
The Naomi Moon Siegel Ensemble formed in 2016 after the release of Siegel’s critically acclaimed album Shoebox View to present the album’s compositions in live performance. Playing Siegel’s original music, the band employs deep grooves, soaring melodies, fantastical soundscapes, creative interplay, and improvisation investigating themes of grief, isolation, and connection amidst climate change.

To deeply understand the importance of protecting environmental sustainability…
The ancient world in the intertidal zone of repeated waves belonged to the land for a while and returned to the ocean with the rhythm of the tide. Wisdom reproduces and evolves endlessly between the high and low tides and is all-encompassing.

Music Monday - Cayley Schmid & aaron Guest
Cayley Schmid and Aaron Guest met at the Bellingham Farmers Market in
2009. Desperately jealous of each other’s busking success, they
neutralized the competition and started a band together. This was the
beginning of a decade-long musical partnership that descended into
marriage. After the retirement of their band, Polecat, in 2020, Aaron and
Cayley suddenly found themselves musically unsupervised by their
bandmates for the first time. Together they play instrumental Celtic music
on fiddle and piano. Tunes range from lively reels and jigs to sweeping airs
and waltzes, and drawing from Scottish, Cape Breton, and Irish traditions.
This event is not ticketed. However, cash donations of appreciation are gladly accepted.
